WHY
♠️ GOOD POINT… WHY DID WE LAUNCH THIS GAME?!
Because of one word: LAUNCH.
It means to throw… and to begin. That’s exactly how TOSSIT started.
Pictured below: our 2 founders, Gaëtan (left) and Nicolas (right). They invented TOSSIT out of a love for playing throwing games. As kids, they threw paper airplanes, water balloons, and snowballs. TOSSIT is that same pure energy bottled up. It’s the feeling of being a kid again. It’s that FRICKIN’ FUN you can’t stop tossing. 🎯
Have you ever gotten joy from throwing a ball of paper into a bin? As kids we threw blocks, toys, paper airplanes (that didn't fly very well), water balloons (we still do this), balloons, snowballs, even sticks for the dog. But the ultimate throw? A paper ball into the trash can.
That moment, calculating the angle from across the office, releasing it with precision… Baam! Right in the bull’s eye. And then comes the rush: celebration, the urge to run down the corridor, to dance, to show everyone around that we’re good at this. Pure joy. It’s addictive, a real drug. By the way, one legendary paper toss even earned an entire class in Ohio an A. Here’s the gem 👇 (and yes, we’re jealous 😍):
Of course, you can’t celebrate too wildly without looking like a crazy person. People around you don’t always get it. But the real ones know. And that frustration, that need to share the fun, stuck with us.
Fast-forward to the middle of COVID. We were all home, running on coffees, lines of code, emails, endless Zoom calls and social networks… sharpening our throws between tasks, sometimes in tiny home offices, sometimes in more spacious family houses. Creativity mode: 200% ON. But we noticed something strange: parents didn’t see our “performances” the same way the kids did. Weird 🤔.
That’s when we realized we needed a common ground. A game of skill that would bring together children, adults, and us: the caffeine-fueled competitors. A way to let off steam, have fun inside, and (yes) show who’s the best.
And in the South of France, there was one obvious source of inspiration: pétanque (bocce). Over here it’s not just a game, it’s a religion. We played it during school lunch breaks, on campsites with friends, in competitions, while sharing drinks. It shaped our competitive spirit. Mix that pétanque mindset with darts, curling, a dash of chaos, and baam TOSSIT was born. (Naming it took us weeks, by the way.)
Picture: Nicolas working on TOSSIT right after the launch in a very rustic office in Paris. The 2 founders have been sleeping on the floor of that office for a few months at the beginning.
Of course, before playing with family or friends, we had to create it. Prototype after prototype. We tested a dozen designs, adjusted, retested, started over. We didn’t just snap our fingers and hop! a little TOSSIT dart. No. We’re perfectionists. Slightly obsessed. But when it’s for fun, we don’t count the hours.
And if this still doesn’t convince you… well, we’re now secretly training for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Not in hammer throw this time, in freestyle TOSSIT, of course. We’re still waiting for the IOC to call us back. 🎯
